The Waiting Game
Another long break in the blog. . .
Next month I will be coming home. As exciting as that may seem for people at home, for the majority of us here it will be a nerve racking experience. Believe it or not, but I have more anxiety when I think about coming home then I have ever had while I have been here. In short: we are scared.
Inevitably, almost all discussions with my fellow soldiers at this point leads to talking about home. They chat excitably about what their plans are, where they are going to school, who they are coming home to, their jobs, their kids, and their spouses. Then they proceed with caution and nervous voices as they talk about what all those things actually mean. What am I doing when I get home? Who will be there when I get home? Will life be the same as it was before?
So, with only a few weeks left the tension is building and our patience is running thin. It's almost like punishment when you don't have any work to do because then your mind is relegated to thinking about home and the anxiety sets in again. I can only go to the gym so much and the rest of the time off I sit and stare at the ceiling. Most our our things are gone and the two bags left are ten minutes away from being packed. Now it's a waiting game and we are trying to find anything to make the time pass by unnoticed.
More next time,
Nick

When you do return home, give yourself time to reconnect with the life you knew prior to deployment. Unwind slowly. Graciously accept the love and attention your family, friends, and even strangers will surely show to you. Bask in evey well-deserved moment of praise. I seriously doubt you will return as the same man who left in 2006. You will undoubtedly have to acquaint yourself with who you are now. I hope your loved ones will quickly adjust to the new you. God bless you. Thank you, Nick.

I'm not sure how I first stumbled upon your blog, but I have enjoyed the glimpse into your world over there. I'm praying that things will go smoothly and the transition will not be too hard on you. Thank you for what you have done over there! Please update your blog when you get home and let us all know that you made it safely.

I care about you and your fellow troops as a Christian brother. You have experienced things in your life that others may never see or appreciate. You have given your time to defense of our freedoms, something for which we are deeply grateful. Like the others have said, the transition from the Middle East back to home life in the good ol' usa may take some time, and although you may not expect it your life has likely changed . . . hopefully when you return you will take time to relax and appreciate all the differences between good and evil and the sacrifices you have made and to appreicate what we have in a free america. Let us know you are home safely. God bless.

rest assured you are not the only ones scared. Us spouses, fiance's, significant others and family and friends are scared too. We have adjusted to life alone and are scared of how you will see us when you come home. There is one challenge nearly completed and another to conquer. Although this challenge that lies ahead is one we both take on willingly. May god bless you in your final missions.

First off, as crazy and ambigious as I sound when giving advice, heed this above all: whatever you want things to be, they will become. If you keep imagining that going back home will be "stressful" maybe even "intimidating" then it'll be exactly that, some goes for the opposite. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise and don't you dare let anyone question how you feel. You have earned everything coming your way. Lastly, you can go to the gym "only so much"? Pish-Posh, you obviously did not pay any attention to any of the ska-zills I taught you when I was down there. Time to re-educate you then. The pain train is coming. . .CHOO! CHOO!
