Low for the day: 80 degrees

I always seem to stumble on words as soon as I am about to write. During the week I always think of things that I want to talk about, but then when I get to the computer I forget everything.

I wish that I could say that I have had a time to relax and possibly get a day off but things haven't changed. We are stretched so thin on people that our same group of people go to work everyday together and as you can imagine tensions begin to run high. Being in a leadership postition is not all that it's cracked up to be.

The only saving grace about my job is the personal interaction that I have had with the local people here. It is my fortune that I can stop and talk and even share tea with the people that have called this area home for generations (yes they drink chai here even when it's 113 degrees!) Of course I must talk through an interpreter but the rapport that I now have with the interpreters allow me hold a conversation that doesn't lay idle. Of course there are always the people that don't want to talk to you, but I haven't encountered many of them.

Ok, so I know that I promised to give a little insight into what it is that I am actually doing here and I will . . . eventually. I will put up some pictures that I hope will at least provide a different view of the landscape other than my whining about the sand.

Next goal: get new pictures up for everyone to see.

Nick

P.S.- Haven't had ice cream since last Sunday.

  • Hey Lake Buddy! It has been awhile since I've had a chance to read your blog's, so needless to say I had alot of catch-up reading to do! Having a son is a whole new world, and making time for the everyday things you once use to do is a challenge-especially when your such a scheduled person as myself, my life is now living on Ryan's schedule, as I get things done around when he naps, in between feedings and such-and of coarse the old "sleep when he sleeps" rule of thumb, used by many moms. Ryan and I are sitting here and reading all about your journeys, and we thought our 92 degree days were bad! Thank you for the congrats! We have a healthy baby boy-yes Nick everything included from Dan's nose down to his long toes! He has the Dietz feet-their huge! Thank you Nick for the day-to-day hell that you and your fellow soldiers have to go through to keep us free, it is appreciated more then I can type words to express! *A desert mirage: On those 109 degree days and your sweating your ass off-try to imagine your self on your old Tigershark, as you pound across the waves on OT Lake(Does that let the mind escape and wonder off to a "happier" place for a moment or make things worse?) I keep praying and thinking of you and our brave men daily-and keep thinking positively as you always have Nick-I Love You and Miss You Dearly!

*A Word of Advice: "Uncle Nick, Ice Cream once a week-Mommy and I agree, with as hot as it is there- you should have it at least once a day, their are to many flavors out there to only have it once a week!" (Ok so Mommy typed this for me, but I told her what to type!)
